I Am Progress (feat Deuce Eclipse & The Grouch) by Prozack Turner

This song is so special to me. I wrote my verse in a very painful time of my life. I had recently been separated from my wife, had moved out of my home and was in such a dark place that I felt I couldn’t move on. I was living in a new state with no real support system or circle of friends nearby. It was the worst depression that I had ever experienced in my life and I was feeling isolated, alone and confused. During this time, I received the terrible news that my friend Zumbi ,(of Zion I )had been taken from us, killed. He was a beacon of light to myself and so many others, and an instrumental part of my life. We had been on many tours together and I had met my wife back in 2006 while on tour with Zion I and Deuce Eclipse. I was heartbroken with the news of his passing. I spoke with Deuce Eclipse on the phone and he was devastated as well. There was a memorial out in California where his friends and family got together (including The Grouch and Deuce Eclipse) to celebrate his life. I couldn’t believe that Zumbi was gone and that his three children were now left fatherless. I was crushed. My loneliness would regularly take me down to the beach, where I attempt to meditate and shake off the blues, but more often times I would sulk. I was in bad shape. I had to look inward.
As I sat there one day, I thought of my beautiful children, the vastness of the sea, my health, my sight, the love that I was so fortunate to have experienced with my ex,I began to focus on the gifts in my life. I had my life! I called up Deuce Eclipse and Grouch and had some deep conversations about life, love, pain and gratitude, and how wonderful it all is, pain and everything.Instead of focusing on what lacked, I began to focus on abundance. I recorded my verse and sent it out to the both of them, and “I Am Progress” was born. This is a song about survival, growth and focusing on all the beautiful that we all have, even in tough times. This song is for you.
