Sema Lo - Slow Life | Switchstance Recordings (switchstancerecordings.bandcamp.com)
Time is running fast these days in our world of smartphones and social media. Finding time to take a break for resting the body and soul is not an easy task. Music, after all, can be a way out of it… Sema Lo, Switchstance Recordings newest artist signing, has the cure for all this digital stress, the “Slow Life”.

Lorenz Herrmann aka Sema Lo was born and raised in Germany, and after studying Swahili in Berlin and Dar Es Salaam, he found himself rapping in Swahili and making good friends in the music scene. As cultural activist and music lover, he finally decided his energy would be more needed and efficient in East Africa, so he found himself moving to the beautiful island of Zanzibar in Tanzania in 2015.

His integration in the local music scene on Zanzibar, made him realise that modern day music business can only be done right, if one can balance the two different worlds of it: the joyful moment of creating music with friends and band mates while still keeping up with the business side of it: social media, phone calls and emails. Mainly working on other artist and careers in the past years, he now found a new home with Switchstance Recordings and is finally releasing his own music as well.

Sema Lo is spreading his messages in Kiswahili, German and English, always on a conscious level, navigating through different identities and addressing social issues.

“Slow Life” is produced by Stone Town Records raised and bred DJ Walid, featuring ward winning Tanzanian Reggae and Dancehall artist Hardmad and the beautiful soul Jamila on vocals duties.

But what is the “Slow Life”? This is how Sema Lo describes it in his own words:

“Slow Life is a song that truly expresses my annoyance of the crazy fast life we live in…having to be on the phone all the time…all the social media crap going on…especially young, but also older people, really being fixed to their phones for everything…so the song is about actively leaving the phone at home, going out and enjoying the Slow Life…the real non-digital life…meeting up with your friends…chatting and spending quality time while your phone is at home…recording the song was like a family thing with Jamila and Hardmad… Jamila is a really good friend in Zanzibar and we spent a lot of quality time aka Slow Life together…Hardmad is a Reggae legend in Tanzania and it´s a big honor to have him on the song…Hardmad and Jamila bring in a little different style that fits perfectly to my idea of the song…”

Since calling Zanzibar his home, Sema Lo became one of the founding members and managers of music production and artist empowering community Stone Town Records, which is located in the island´s capital Stone Town. He is also the founder and mentor of video production studio NAD Edutainment and the manager of uprising Zanzibar ensemble Siti & The Band.
